To meet the needs of increased brake system demands and to achieve proper brake balance and be able to maintain it, truckers are asking for the following components and accessories:1. Engine retarders. A retarder is an auxiliary braking device for slowing down vehicles. Types include engine, exhaust, transmission and driveline retarders. In the US, engine retarders are the most common. Well over half of Class 8 trucks are sold with engine retarders. In Europe, driveline retarders are the most common. Engine retarders work by temporarily altering the engine valve timing, releasing to the atmosphere the energy accumulated during the compression stroke. This is done by operating the exhaust valves near top dead center of the compression stroke. Retarding power can be greater than 100% of engine horsepower at rated RPM. Electric radiant heaters are one of those technologies that seldom get a glance from me. And maybe that''s why I was attracted to this exhibit. I didn''t see anything I recognized. I walked over to see what those black crates were that BBC Industries was exhibiting. They didn''t look like much, and then the radiant heat hit me. Consequently, PD pumps have had to be redesigned for improved performance to justify their premium prices. Rotor geometry has been significantly improved for gentle handling of viscous materials with delicate inclusions, such as baked beans and yogurt with fruit. But the greatest technical advancement is CIP-compatible PD pumps. "That is a big leap forward in this industry," Jones says. "This is very sophisticated equipment, machined to within thousandths of an inch, and you don''t want to send an army of chop relatively low-skilled saw sanitation workers to take apart PD pumps for cleaning and possibly damage them."
